Protect Our Bones With The Help Of Pineapples

Pineapple Is a popular tropical fruit that is fragrant, delicious and extremely healthy inside. Considered as one of the healthiest fruits in the world, eating pineapple has been linked to many health benefits. It is a powerhouse of nutrients, antioxidants and other helpful compounds that may have positive effects in our body.

How It May Protect Our Bones?

It is extremely important to build healthy bones as they help us move and stay upright, protect our delicate internal organs, and supply key minerals (calcium and phosphorus) whenever our body needs them. We need to take good care of our bones as we age in order to lower our risk of developing fragile bones that break easily. What we eat, as well as the activities we do, impact our bone health.

Pineapple contains high amounts o vitamin C, a water-soluble antioxidant that fights cell damage and is crucial for bone health. One cup of pineapple contains 78.9 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C which is more than the recommended dietary allowance for adult women (which is 75 mg per day) and close to the recommendation for men (90 mg per day) (1). Vitamin C has been shown to stimulate the production of bone-forming cells and protect bone cells from damage (2).

Results of a 2020 review showed that individuals who ate foods high in vitamin C had a significantly lower risk of developing osteoporosis and a 34% lower incidence of hip fractures (3).

In addition to this, pineapples also have manganese, a mineral that’s important for developing strong bones and connective tissue. A cup of raw pineapple chunks contains 2.6 mg of manganese. In a study, experts found that manganese, along with other trace minerals, may possibly help in lowering one’s risk of osteoporosis in post-menopausal women (4,5).

Likewise, a separate study also showed that manganese maybe helpful in preventing spinal bone loss in older women when taken with calcium, zinc, magnesium, boron, vitamin D, and copper. Manganese is also present in whole grains, lentils, and black pepper (6).

This juicy yellow fruit ca be enjoyed in plenty of ways. We can simply snack it on bite-sized pieces or toss frozen chunks into a smoothie. Other glorious way of using it is by just slicing them into small cubes, coat with honey, and roast until tender and then serve them with meat or as a tasty side
