Lemongrass Tea May Provide Relief From Symptoms Of PMS

Some women are fortunate as they can easily glide through their periods. But sadly, there are those who are experiencing soul-crushing menstrual cramps every month.

Herbal teas, like lemongrass tea, can provide us with some much-needed freshness to relieve us from the fatigue as well as help decrease the amount of pain we are experiencing during our cycle.

Lemongrass is a stalky and tall plant with a fresh aroma.  It is commonly used to improve sleep quality, boost immunity, and to relieve pain. When brewed as tea, it can provide us with essential vitamins and nutrients needed by our body for optimal health.

Lemongrass Tea And Menstrual Problems

Lemongrass tea has stomach-soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. It has been traditionally used as a remedy for menstrual cramps, bloating, and hot flashes. It also acts as a mood enhancer and reduces the discomfort due to heavy bleeding or cramps. The Journal of Advanced Pharmaceutical Technology & Research published an article stating that lemongrass oil is useful in cooling down the body.

This soothing tea is a natural sedative and can provide a calming effect that can ease cramps and pain during menstruation.  It contains myrcene which is an analgesic or painkiller and also exhibits antinociceptive action which provides relief from menstrual pain, according to research published in the Journal of Medicinal food.

To Make Lemongrass Tea:

Simply pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 to 3 teaspoons fresh or dried lemongrass. Steep for at least five minutes and then strain the tea. Add some honey to naturally sweeten it and to help preserve the benefits of lemongrass. Enjoy hot or add ice cubes for iced lemongrass tea.

Another way is by adding a pinch of pepper to a cup of water and boil it. Pour this on one tablespoon lemongrass leaves and sip it two-three times a day during menstruation.
