The combination of baking soda and lemon juice has been used by many as a natural remedy. These two ingredients have plenty of health benefits on their own. Once they are combined, they can have amazing effects on our health.

Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is power-packed with antacid properties and is known to be a great alkalizing agent. This humble kitchen ingredient is known to have many antiseptic properties along with being an amazing exfoliator. Many people have used it in a variety of treatments for acidic conditions such as digestive issues, heartburn, as to reduce the risk of acidosis.

Meanwhile, lemons are also full of vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and antioxidants. They boost immunity, improve heart health, help prevent kidney stones, beneficial for pregnant women, and even have anti-cancer properties.

Benefits Of Lemon And Baking Soda Mixture

Skin Care

In a study, it was found that lemon juice is a high antioxidant beverage. Its antioxidant content and citric acid can help in reducing oxidative stress and prevent the negative effects of free radicals in the body. These effects can help in slowing down signs of aging, and reducing the appearance of sunspots, scars, and wrinkles thus giving our skin a glowing look.

Cleansing Properties

The combination can help stimulate the body to urinate to expel out excess water, salt, fats, and toxins. This can help ensure that our body maintains a low level of toxicity and can reduce the levels of stress and pressure in our kidneys.

In a study, results suggest that lemon juice has a protective activity against urolithiasis, which is the formation of hard substances and stone-like substances in the bladder and urinary tract.

Dental Care

Many people have been traditionally using baking soda and lemons for whitening the teeth. Baking soda has a salty, alkaline taste. Its alkalinity helps eliminate tooth discoloration due to food and drink consumption, smoking, and the like. Meanwhile, lemon contains citric acid which is an effective bleaching agent.

To use, mix half teaspoon of baking soda to half teaspoon of lemon juice. Use a toothbrush to brush the teeth with the mixture. Let the mixture sit for a minute before washing it off.

Note: The use of this mixture should be limited as citric acid found in lemons can be detrimental to the teeth.

Helps Improve Digestion

This combination acts as a wonderful antacid and can quickly reduce symptoms of bloating, indigestion, excess flatulence, heartburn, and cramping. Lemon juice and baking soda can also significantly boost the health of our gut by preventing inflammation.

How To Mix Lemon Juice And Baking Soda

At night time, put a glass of water into an empty liter/quart jar and then add 1 tablespoon (British dessert spoon) of baking soda and the juice of one whole lemon. Now fill the jar with pure water and leave overnight.

In the morning, on an empty stomach, drink 3 glasses of this lemon/baking soda mixture. At first, it may be hard to drink 3 glasses (750ml) in succession. When we wake up in the mornings our bodies are very acidic. Doing this will help restore our pH balance and cleanse our intestines.

Then before going to bed at night, 2 hours or more after eating, drink another glass (250ml) of the same mixture and then make another liter of the same mixture for the next day. This will help improve our general overall health.

Note: Try not to drink this decoction before a meal because it won’t be able to work as quickly on the body, and will not be as effective.
