Most Common Triggers Of Hair Loss In Women

At present, hair care becomes even more important for women as their hair is often one of the first being noticed. However, some women experience hair loss which can be distressing and negatively affect their self-esteem.

Below are some common causes of hair fall in women.

Intense Emotional Or Physical Stress

Stress can literally make our hair fall out. Stress can increase androgen (male hormone) levels, which in turn can cause hair loss.

Anabel Kingsley, a leading Trichologist at the Philip Kingsley Clinic in London, says:

“Stress may also trigger scalp problems, such as dandruff, disrupt eating habits and mess with the digestive system – all of which can have a negative impact on hair.”

Birth Control Pills

Whether a woman is just starting, changing brands or discontinuing the use of birth control pills, her body can react by causing hair to go into an increased shedding mode.

Dandruff Or Scalp Psoriasis

When we have itchy and inflamed skin on the scalp, we are tempted to scratch it and this may cause our hair to shed more than usual.

Dandruff is a condition of the scalp that causes flakes of skin to appear. It is often accompanied by itching. It is the most easily treated cause of hair loss because we can simply treat it with shampoo or other exfoliating ingredients.

However, there are other known conditions that can cause itchiness and scalp flaking. Psoriasis (an autoimmune condition that causes thick patches of skin) and seborrheic dermatitis (a more severe version of dandruff caused by a buildup of yeast and oil) are just some of the conditions which may take more time and effort than dandruff.

Dramatic Weight Loss

After 6-12 weeks of dramatic weight loss, our hair commonly comes out in excess. This means that any nutritional deficiency often first shows up in our hair which is another reason why we need to avoid crash dieting. It would be better if we adopt a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Over-Processing Of Hair

Most women today wanted their hair to look shiny, straight, and glowing. To make this possible, they often get chemical straightening, relaxing procedures, perms or basically anything that uses harsh chemicals on the scalp. This can cause hair follicle damage, make the hair appear thinner, and may eventually cause permanent hair loss.
