Apple Cider Vinegar: The Bedtime Drink That Can Help Control Blood Sugar

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has been famously known due to its several uses. One of the most important benefits it can give our body is its ability in aiding diabetes treatment.

Studies revealed that apple cider vinegar (ACV) is beneficial for diabetes patients, especially those with type 2 diabetes. For this study which was published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine in 2018, it was observed that taking apple cider vinegar before bedtime can help moderate the blood sugar levels of patients suffering from diabetes. Additionally, it can also help in normalizing fasting sugar in the morning.

Dietician and Nutritionist Jasleen Kaur explains that:

“Diabetes is a chronic condition in which the body is not able to produce insulin and manage blood sugar levels appropriately. Apple cider vinegar not only helps to reduce weight and beer belly it also helps to reduce the blood sugar levels.”

In a study from Arizona State University, participants took a drink made of 20 grams of apple cider vinegar, 40 grams of water, and 1 teaspoon of saccharin with each meal. At the end of the study period, results demonstrated that those with insulin resistance who drank the vinegar had 34% lower postprandial (after-meal) glucose compared to controls.

In a separate study, it was found that apple cider vinegar improves insulin sensitivity during a high-carb meal by 19 to 34%, and significantly lower insulin responses and blood sugar by 34% after eating 50g of white bread.

Experts claimed that these effects are mainly due to the vinegar’s acetic acid, which is produced when the sugars from apples are fermented.

Aside from adding apple cider vinegar into one’s everyday diet, eating healthy and physical exercise is also needed to lower blood sugars. Be active always. Walk fast, climb stairs, and do more strenuous housework or gardening.

How To Use Apple Cider Vinegar To Help Manage Blood Sugar

Apple Cider Vinegar And Water

Mix 2 tablespoons each of ACV and water. Consume the mixture, along with cheese, before bedtime.

The acetic acid in ACV can help reduce starch digestion while cheese contains amino acids that provide glucogenic substrates, which might benefit patients with type 2 diabetes.

Baking Soda And Apple Cider Vinegar

Pour 2 tablespoons of ACV and ¼ teaspoon of baking soda to a glass tumbler and stir thoroughly.

Drink the mixture before bedtime. Eat or suck on the orange wedges to remove the sour taste of ACV from the mouth.
