Cancer is a serious health threat that can affect men and women of any age or race. It is a result of damage and genetic mutation of DNA. The disease can affect the way our cells grow and divide which change them in perverse ways.
There are cases wherein cancer progress rapidly or take years to develop. Some cancers are caused by genetic defects, breathing certain substances, using some kinds of plastics, or eating specific foods.
There are proven ways that can help lower your risk of developing the disease. Some of them include avoiding tobacco, limiting alcohol intake, keeping weight in check, and exercising regularly. Also, there are specific foods we should avoid since these foods can raise our risk of developing cancer.
Here is the list of the foods we should avoid if we want to live healthy and cancer-free.
Foods with Additives
Studies revealed that food additives can cause tumor development. This includes preservatives, sweeteners, and artificial colors which are found in processed.
Aspartame is a commonly known artificial sweetener which can cause neurological disorders and cancerous brain tumors. Some of the products that contain aspartame are diet sodas, sugar-free ice cream, reduced-calorie fruit juice, gum, yogurt, and sugarless candy.
Charred Foods
A collection of chemicals known as heterocyclic aromatic amines, or HAA’s are formed when food (meats, veggies, or bread) are charred. HAA’s have been linked to the development of different types of cancer.
It would be better and safer if you simply broil, poach or bake food or just remove burnt or charred portions of food before consuming.
Processed Meats
At present, a lot of people are eating sausages, deli meats, bacon, and other processed meats which contain little fiber and are high in saturated fats, calories, and nitrates, a proven chemical carcinogen. Consumption of these foods increases your risk for weight gain and colon cancer and even contributes to the development of pancreatic and prostate cancer.
Conventionally Raised Foods
Foods carry with them a higher risk for cancer if they are raised conventionally – with heavy usage of artificial fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. Since residues from these toxic chemicals are left behind upon the foods, they can enter our body and can have a huge harmful effect on our health.
GMO’s
Genetically modified organism (GMO)is the result of a laboratory process wherein the genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal. According to studies, consumption of GMOs can increase a person’s risk of tumor growth and cause mutations in the cells that can’t be accounted for.
These foods are very common in our modern diet. You should avoid them all if you are really concerned about your health as these foods can have harmful effects on your health in the long-run.
