Herbs That Help Prevent And Eliminate Calcium Stones (Kidney Stones)

Crystals, which is known to be kidney stones, form in the bladder or kidney in patients with nephrolithiasis. These stones can be composed of uric acid, struvite, or calcium salts, wherein among these three, the last is the most common. There are many home remedies available that will help you get rid of these calcium stones in an easier way.

Dehydration is considered to be the biggest risk factors for kidney stone formation. Some other causes are overactive adrenal glands (Cushing’s syndrome), diet, an elevated level of cystine in urine (cystinuria), hereditary factors, and sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disease.

Calcium stones can cause excruciating pain when they get dislodged even though it usually just pass through the body without the need for medical assistance. A surgical process called lithotripsy is needed in order to remove crystals that are not able to pass through the bladder on their own.

With the use of natural treatments, you can prevent these stones. There are some herbs that may work by interfering with crystal formation. One of these is Aloe, which has a component that slows down the rate of crystal formation. They make it easier and less painful to expel the crystal from the body by preventing the stone from getting too big. You can drink Aloe juice daily for a period of two weeks.

Varuna (Crataeva Nurvala) is another herb that affects crystal formation. It inhibits an enzyme involved in calcium stone formation. To be an effective remedy, drink Varuna tea three times a day.

Another herb that can be taken orally to dissolve calcium stones is Chanca Piedra (Phyllanthus Nirurior commonly known in tagalog as “Sampasampalukan“. This herb eliminates the need for stone expulsion since it reduces the size of the stone or dissolves it completely.

On the other hand, there are some herbs that help in the process of expelling kidney stones. You can take a cup of birch leaf tea three times a day to stimulate urination so that the stone can pass through the urinary tract. Marshmallow root also helps cleanse the kidneys to get rid of calcium stones. A quart of tea may also be taken daily.

The above-mentioned herbs are effective and recommended substitutes for prescribed medications in treating kidney stones without having dangerous side effects.

Also, consuming too much sodium causes calcium concentration in urine to increase, thereby leading to stone formation. You should also limit the amount of protein you consume as it will increase your uric acid levels leading to stone formation.
