Home Remedies For Hypotension (Low Blood Pressure)

Hypotension or low blood pressure is a condition wherein a person’s blood pressure becomes so low that it causes, nausea, fainting, fatigue, difficulty in breathing, dizziness, palpitations, blurred vision and cold, clammy skin.

Generally, individuals with an ideal weight, physically active, and fit have a blood pressure reading lower than what is considered normal at 120/80 mm Hg. When symptoms are not experienced, this is not considered unhealthy. But, it is considered hypotension when readings constantly remain around 90/60mm Hg or lower. This may cause an inadequate flow of blood to organs such as the heart, brain, and kidneys.

Some of the causes of this condition are issues like prolonged bed rest, decrease in blood volume, heart problems, endocrine disorders, neurological conditions, pregnancy, dehydration, and nutritional deficiencies.

Aside from this, there are certain medications that can also lead to low blood pressure such as antidepressants, alpha blockers, diuretics, beta blockers.

You can try some of these simple remedies to alleviate symptoms.

Lemon Juice

Apart from being highly effective in treating high blood pressure, lemons can also be used for low blood pressure, particularly when it is caused by dehydration.

Drink some lemon juice mixed with a little sugar and salt. It will help energize your body by aiding in digestion and stimulating the liver function.

Salt Water

The low blood pressure can be treated with the help of salt water because the sodium in salt increases blood pressure. However, you should not overdo this remedy, as too much salt is unhealthy. Simply mix ½ teaspoon of salt in a glass of water and drink it.

Almonds And Milk

This is another traditional home remedy for low blood pressure. Soak five to six almonds in water overnight. In the morning, peel off the skin and then grind the almonds into a smooth paste. Lastly, boil the paste in a cup of milk and drink it every morning.

Raisins

Raisins are considered to be excellent for treating hypotension naturally.

In a cup of water, soak 30 to 40 raisins overnight. The next morning, eat them on an empty stomach. You can also drink the water in which raisins were soaked. Have this remedy for weeks or even months.

Coffee

You can temporarily increase your blood pressure by having a cup of hot chocolate, cola, strong coffee, or any caffeinated beverage. If you tend to suffer from low blood pressure frequently, drink a cup of coffee in the morning, or have it along with meals most especially when dealing with orthostatic hypotension.

Holy Basil

Holy basil is rich in magnesium, pantothenic acid, potassium, and vitamin C. It can also help balance the mind and lessen stress.

Extract the juice of 10 to 15 basil leaves and add one teaspoon of honey to it. Regularly drink it on an empty stomach.

You can also chew some basil leaves in the morning.

Carrot Juice

One of the easiest ways of treating low blood pressure is by starting your day with some fresh carrot juice mixed with a little honey.

Have a mixture of one glass of carrot juice and 2 tablespoons of honey. Drink it twice daily on an empty stomach.

Apart from these remedies mentioned, it is much better if you pair it with regular, mild exercise to promote blood flow. It is usually suggested to people suffering from this condition to increase their salt and fluid intake. But make sure to check with your doctor before doing so. Likewise, cut down on alcoholic beverages and high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta, and bread.
