Home Remedies For Hair Loss

At present, hair loss is a problem that many people suffer from. Several factors can be attributed to hair loss. These includes:

  1. Environmental effects
  2. Aging
  3. Nutritional deficiencies
  4. Genetic factor
  5. Too much stress
  6. Hormonal imbalance
  7. Excessive smoking
  8. Use of wrong or chemically enriched hair products
  9. Certain medicines and medical condition (like thyroid disorder and PCOS)
  10. Scalp Infections
  11. Chronic illnesses

Your scalp has about 100,000 strands of hair. Losing 50 to 100 strands a day is just normal. However, if you start losing more than that, I think it would be better if you take some actions so that it would not end to baldness or bald spots.

There are many available ingredients you can use to treat hair loss at home. Here is the list:

Hair Oil Massage

Massage your scalp using appropriate hair oil. It will condition the scalp, increase blood flow to the hair follicles, and enhance the strength of hair’s roots. Also, it will reduce feelings of stress and promote relaxation as well.

You may opt to use castor oil, amla oil, almond oil, argan oil, wheat germ oil, emu oil or olive oil. For better and faster results, add a few drops of rosemary essential oil to the base oil. Massage any of the oils onto your hair and scalp. Do this at least once a week.

Coconut Milk

Because of its richness in essential fats and protein, coconut milk can prevent hair loss and promote hair growth. It can provide quick results when applied to the hair. To do this, add a freshly grated coconut to a pan of water and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Strain it and once cool apply it to the scalp and hair. Leave it for 20 minutes and shampoo your hair. Before using this treatment, you may add some black pepper and powdered fenugreek seeds to make it more effective.

Indian Gooseberry

Also known as amla, Indian gooseberry promotes natural and fast hair growth. It is high in vitamin C, of which a deficiency in the body can cause hair loss. Aside from this, it has antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and exfoliating properties that can maintain a healthy scalp and promote hair growth.

Mix 1 tbsp. each of amla and lemon juice. Massage it into your scalp and then, cover your hair with a shower cap. Leave it overnight. Shampoo your hair in the morning.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek seeds contain hormone antecedents that improve hair growth as well as help rebuild hair follicles. Proteins and nicotinic acid that stimulate hair growth are also found in it.

Soak 1 cup of fenugreek seeds in water overnight. In the morning, make a paste by grinding them and then, apply it onto your hair and cover with a shower cap for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Follow these steps every morning for a month.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has enzymes and alkalizing properties that promote healthy hair growth and brings the scalp and hair’s pH to a more desirable level. Its regular use can also reduce scalp itching, inflammation, and scalp redness; alleviate dandruff; and strengthen and add luster strength to hair.

Apply aloe vera juice or gel onto the scalp and leave it for a few hours. Wash it off with lukewarm water. Repeat these home remedy steps three to four times a week.

For better hair growth, you can also consume 1 tbsp. of aloe vera juice daily on an empty stomach.

Onion Juice

The high sulfur content of onion helps improve blood circulation to the hair follicles, renew hair follicles, and lessens inflammation.

It also has antibacterial properties that help kill parasites and germs as well as treat scalp infections that cause hair loss.

Grate the onion to extract its juice. Strain it. Apply the juice to the scalp and leave for 30 minutes. Finally, wash it off after and shampoo your hair.

You can also mix 3 tbsp. of onion juice, 2 tbsp. of aloe vera gel and 1 tbsp olive oil. Apply the mixture to your scalp and leave for 30 minutes before rinsing and shampooing your hair.

Repeat these steps two to three time a week for several weeks.

Chinese Hibiscus

This flower has natural properties that can treat hair loss, cure dandruff, thicken hair, prevent split ends and premature graying.

To encourage proper hair growth, you can make a tea with this flower and use it as a rinse for your hair. Also, you can add 10 Chinese Hibiscus flowers to 2 cups of coconut oil. Heat it and strain to collect the oil. Before going to bed, apply the oil onto your hair and wash in the morning. Repeat these steps a few time a week.

Licorice Root

Licorice roots have mollifying properties that can soothe the scalp, open pores and get rid of irritations. This remedy is good for baldness, hair loss, and dandruff.

Make a paste by combining 1 tbsp of ground licorice, 1 cup of milk, and a quarter teaspoon of saffron. At bedtime, apply the paste on bald patches and leave it overnight. Wash your hair in the morning. Do this remedy once or twice a week.

Flaxseeds

Flaxseeds can prevent hair loss and encourage hair growth due to its omega-3 fatty acids content.

Every morning, consume 1 tbsp of freshly ground flaxseeds with a glass of water. You may also add flaxseeds to your soups, smoothies, salads, and other dishes. Aside from this, flaxseed oil can be applied directly to your hair as it can prevent hair loss and strengthen your hair as well.

Beetroot

Beetroot juice contains protein, calcium, vitamins B and C, potassium and carbohydrates, which are all essential for healthy growth. Include this in your diet or you may grind a few beetroot leaves (boiled in water) together with henna. Apply the paste on your scalp and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse it out and repeat several times a week.

Aside from these home remedies, you must follow a proper diet to keep your hair healthy. Eating fresh fruits and green vegetables would be great.
