Simple Ways To Get Rid Of Common Headache

Headaches or head pains are simply common. Though there are several types of this condition, tension headaches are the most common.

Fortunately, there are several things we can do to easily get rid of the pain associated with headaches. Check out the list below.

Sleep

Lack of sleep can lead to chronic headaches. We need to find ways to improve the amount and quality of our sleep.

We need to commit ourselves to a sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at a regular time. Stimulants like alcohol, sugar, nicotine, and caffeine should be avoided as they can keep us up at night with trips to the bathroom. Also, we can have a relaxing activity before bed, such as treating ourselves to a good book or hot bath.

Try A Cold Pack

For those suffering from headaches, simply placing a cold pack on the forehead can provide relief. Do this by wrapping ice cubes in a towel and then place it in the head for 15 minutes, then take a break for 15 minutes. Also, placing a bag of frozen peas on the head as well as having a cold shower may also lessen the pain.

Sip Soothing Teas

One of the excellent ways to wind down at night is by drinking a steaming cup of herbal tea. Certain teas have soothing qualities that can have pain-relieving effects. Some of the best teas to try for relaxation are chamomile, dandelion, and ginger tea.

Drink More Water

Since dehydration contributes to headaches, it would be better to simply drink two glasses of water when we feel like a headache is starting; this can help to curb it before it gets worse.

Avoid beverages that trigger headaches, such as coffee or too many caffeine-filled soft drink and alcohol particularly red wine. Health authorities commonly recommend eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters, or half a gallon.

Exercise

Tension-related headaches can sometimes be relieved with regular breathing exercises that help focus our mind and ease our muscles. We can do this by going to a quiet place with a comfortable chair and then take slow, rhythmic breaths, breathing in for five seconds then out for five seconds. Doing this will help us feel relax as our muscle tightness reduces.

Also, having at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise four times a week can help prevent headaches from occurring.
